I have been using and liking a Google Sitemap Generation tool by a company called vigos.
The tool uses several threads to spider your site and then generates the map and the interface is clear a resonably straightforward.
The only downside is the messages that appear after generating a sitemap, suggest looking at vigos http compression software.
A small price to pay for a cool and free tool.
